Mohammed Hayatu-Deen on Thursday obtained the ADC presidential nomination form at the African Democratic Congress national secretariat in Abuja, formally joining the contest for the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general election. Party officials presented the form during a gathering attended by party stakeholders and supporters. The development makes him the first aspirant to publicly obtain the ADC presidential nomination form for the forthcoming election cycle.
Hayatu-Deen, a banker and former chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, said the party leadership should determine the mode of the primary election. He pledged to abide by the party’s internal democratic processes whether the presidential primary emerges through direct voting or consensus arrangements. According to him, the leadership of the party possesses the authority to decide the most suitable process for selecting its presidential candidate.
Speaking after receiving the form, Hayatu-Deen said, “I am here to pick up the nomination form to contest for the office of the president on the platform of ADC, and I have picked it up.” He also stated that democracy gives every qualified Nigerian the constitutional right to contest elective positions and participate freely in national political processes.
The ADC presidential nomination form process comes amid increasing political activities ahead of the 2027 elections. Opposition parties have continued consultations, coalition discussions, and mobilisation efforts across several states. The ADC has recently attracted attention following defections, endorsements, and declarations by political figures seeking alternative political platforms.
Party supporters described Hayatu-Deen’s decision to obtain the form early as a sign of organisation and preparedness. The News Agency of Nigeria reported that several party faithful viewed the development as an indication of growing internal momentum within the party.
In recent days, support groups within the ADC publicly endorsed Hayatu-Deen’s presidential ambition. The ADC Vanguard Support Group stated that the aspirant possesses experience in institution-building and economic management. The group also argued that his emergence could strengthen internal party coordination ahead of the elections.
The ADC presidential nomination form acquisition also reflects increasing political realignments ahead of 2027. Analysts have linked growing activities within opposition parties to ongoing consultations over coalition building, candidate selection, and voter mobilisation strategies nationwide.
Hayatu-Deen further stated that the democratic process must remain open and transparent. He stressed that Nigerians should retain the freedom to choose leaders through credible elections and lawful political participation. He added that he would respect any final decision reached by the ADC leadership concerning the nomination process.
The ADC presidential nomination form process is expected to continue in the coming weeks as more aspirants declare interest in various elective positions. Attention is now shifting toward internal party consultations and preparations for primaries ahead of the official election timetable expected from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
