The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has scheduled five by-elections for September 19, 2026.

The polls will be conducted across four states. The affected states are Gombe, Kano, Bauchi and Delta.

The commission’s Chief Press Secretary to its chairman, Tunde Oketola, disclosed this on Tuesday.

Oketola spoke in Abuja during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN.

According to him, the exercise will cover one federal constituency.

Four state constituencies will also participate in the elections.

In Gombe State, voting will take place in the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency.

The constituency is the only federal seat listed for the exercise.

Bauchi State will conduct elections in two state constituencies. They are the Disina State Constituency and the Sakwa State Constituency.

The remaining two constituencies are located in Delta and Kano states.

Delta State will hold the election in the Udu State Constituency. Kano State will conduct its poll in the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency.

The September 19 exercise will therefore cover five constituencies.

INEC is expected to oversee the polls across the affected areas.

The by-elections became necessary to fill the affected legislative vacancies.

The commission’s announcement provides the timetable for political parties and candidates involved.

Candidates and their supporters are expected to intensify preparations ahead of polling day.
