The City Boy Movement has entered into a strategic partnership with the Federal Capital Territory chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as part of efforts to mobilise more than 42,000 volunteers ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The collaboration was formalised during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the support group to the FCT APC State Office in Abuja, where both parties outlined plans aimed at strengthening grassroots mobilisation, expanding voter registration and increasing political participation across the territory.
Speaking during the visit, the FCT Director and Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, Mr. Bitrus Garki, said the organisation was intensifying efforts to establish structures across all 2,822 polling units in the Federal Capital Territory.
According to him, the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to build a strong network of 2027 election volunteers capable of supporting voter engagement, political awareness campaigns and community-based mobilisation efforts. Garki stressed that the City Boy Movement remains a support group and not a political party, adding that its activities are geared towards promoting the ideals and programmes of the APC and supporting President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“City Boy Movement is not a political party; it is a support group. We believe in President Bola Tinubu and the founding principles of the APC.
“We are building a polling-unit structure across the 2,822 polling units in the FCT, with a target of over 42,000 volunteers.
“Our membership registration will also serve as a platform for tracking beneficiaries of future social intervention programmes,” he said.
Garki unveiled a seven-point proposal designed to deepen cooperation between the movement and the APC. The proposal includes joint voter registration drives, youth leadership development programmes, community outreach initiatives, digital advocacy campaigns and other activities aimed at strengthening grassroots political participation. He also announced plans to empower 1,000 residents on July 14 through various support initiatives.
In addition, the movement plans to launch a Community Impact Project that will deliver solar-powered streetlights and healthcare interventions across the FCT’s 62 political wards. According to him, these initiatives are intended to complement the work of government while creating a stronger connection between citizens and political institutions.
Commenting on national governance, Garki expressed confidence in the policies and programmes of President Tinubu’s administration. He said ongoing reforms demonstrate a commitment to addressing security challenges and improving economic conditions across the country.
He further pointed to infrastructure projects within the Federal Capital Territory, particularly road construction in rural communities, as evidence of the government’s determination to improve the lives of citizens. On opposition political alliances ahead of future elections, Garki maintained that the APC remained well-positioned because of its extensive grassroots presence and continued development initiatives.
In his remarks, FCT APC Chairman, Mr. Ishaku Yamawo, welcomed the partnership and described the mobilisation strategy as a timely boost to the party’s preparations. He urged the group to extend its activities beyond urban centres and focus more attention on rural communities where voter registration and mobilisation efforts remain critical.
“This interaction has come at the right time because our priority now is voter registration.
“Let us not limit the activities of the City Boy Movement to the city centre. We want you to take your activities to the area councils, wards and polling units,” Yamawo said. He noted that voter registration exercises often require transportation, logistics and other forms of support, especially in remote communities, adding that the movement could play a significant role in bridging those gaps.
Also speaking, the FCT APC Women Leader, Hajiya Faridah Odangi, emphasised the importance of sustained grassroots engagement, describing residents of the FCT as politically conscious and independent-minded. She said success in future elections would depend largely on direct interaction with communities and the equitable distribution of empowerment initiatives.
“FCT is very important in the 2027 election. Success will depend on hard work, engagement and direct interaction with the people.
“If resources and empowerment programmes are provided, they should reach the grassroots to strengthen public confidence,” she said. Similarly, FCT APC Secretary, Mr. Ibrahim Kuje, advised the movement to ensure its programmes align with existing party structures at ward and polling-unit levels.
“All politics is local. No matter how extensive your national or international network is, it must translate into effective mobilisation at the polling-unit level.
“Elections are won through practical engagement with the people and party structures on the ground,” he said.
The event was attended by the National Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, Mr. Mukhtar Akoshile, alongside party officials and other stakeholders.
As part of the ceremony, the movement decorated the FCT APC chairman, secretary, women leader and several party executives with customised caps and sashes, symbolising the new partnership aimed at building a robust network of 2027 election volunteers across the Federal Capital Territory. Party leaders expressed optimism that the collaboration would strengthen voter participation, deepen grassroots engagement and contribute to the APC’s preparations for future electoral contests.
