Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has formally submitted his ADC nomination forms to contest the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the African Democratic Congress, ADC. The submission marks a major development in the opposition political landscape ahead of the next general election cycle in Nigeria.
Atiku disclosed the submission in a statement shared through his verified X account on Thursday. He described his presidential ambition as part of a broader national movement focused on economic recovery, democratic renewal, and national unity.
According to him, “The march to restore prosperity and better days to our beloved nation took a firm and decisive step forward today at the National Secretariat of our great party, the African Democratic Congress.”
The former vice president added that the process represented more than personal political ambition. He said the effort was “a national movement rooted in hope, renewal, and the collective resolve to save Nigeria from despair.”
The submission of the ADC nomination forms follows earlier confirmation that Atiku had obtained the party’s presidential expression of interest and nomination documents alongside other aspirants including former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen. Reports indicated that the ADC presidential forms were priced at N90 million.
The African Democratic Congress has emerged as a significant platform within ongoing opposition coalition discussions ahead of the 2027 elections. The party has recently attracted several prominent political figures following internal changes within its leadership structure.
According to the ADC timetable, the sale and submission of presidential forms ran from May 6 to May 13, while screening exercises for aspirants are scheduled to begin immediately after submissions close.
Atiku’s submission of the ADC nomination forms comes amid wider political realignments involving opposition parties and political stakeholders preparing for the 2027 presidential contest. Analysts say the early declaration activities reflect increasing political mobilisation across major parties ahead of primary elections.
A video accompanying Atiku’s announcement showed supporters gathered at the ADC national secretariat in Abuja during the submission process. Party supporters and political associates were seen at the venue ahead of his arrival.
The former vice president also called for national support across ethnic, regional, and religious divides. He urged Nigerians to unite around what he described as a collective effort to restore economic stability and national progress.
Atiku previously served as Nigeria’s vice president between 1999 and 2007 under former President Olusegun Obasanjo. He has contested multiple presidential elections and remains one of Nigeria’s most prominent opposition political figures.
The form submission represents another major step in preparations for the 2027 elections as political parties intensify consultations, coalition talks, and internal nomination processes nationwide.
