The Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme Board has commenced the Jigawa Pension Payment of ₦1,389,857,763.37 to 560 retirees and families of deceased civil servants across the state. The Executive Secretary of the pension board, Bilyaminu Aminu, announced the disbursement while addressing beneficiaries at the Pension House in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.
According to Aminu, the payment covers gratuities, death benefits and outstanding death pension balances for civil servants who retired voluntarily, reached retirement age or died while still in active service. He disclosed that the total Jigawa Pension Payment would benefit workers from the state civil service, local government councils and local education authorities.
“Today we are paying a total of ₦1,389,857,763.37 to 560 beneficiaries drawn from the state service, local government councils and local education authorities,” he said.
The Executive Secretary explained that: ₦1,101,443,426.68 will be paid to 453 retired civil servants, ₦261,855,040.41 has been allocated to 90 relatives of workers who died while in active service, ₦26,559,296.28 will be paid to the next of kin of 17 pensioners who passed away before completing five years after retirement.
“For this last category, we are paying ₦26,559,296.28 as the balance of their entitlements to their next of kin,” Aminu stated.
Aminu assured beneficiaries that the contributory pension scheme remains financially stable and up to date with the payment of retirement benefits and monthly pensions. He said retired civil servants across all 27 local government areas of Jigawa continue to receive their monthly pensions without delay. The pension board boss attributed the success of the scheme to the support of Governor Umar Namadi, whom he praised for implementing reforms focused on retirees’ welfare.
“I must extend our heartfelt gratitude to His Excellency, Governor Namadi, for his steadfast support and the transformative reforms he has initiated since assuming office,” Aminu added.
Speaking at the event, the State Accountant General, Abdullahi Shehu, revealed that the Jigawa State Government has injected over ₦9 billion into the contributory pension scheme since 2023. According to him, the investment has strengthened the scheme and enhanced confidence among serving and retiring civil servants.
“From 2023 to date, the government under Governor Namadi has injected over Nine Billion Naira to stabilise the scheme and build confidence among retiring workers,” Shehu said.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on the Contributory Pension Scheme, Idris Aminu, also commended the administration’s commitment to pensioners, describing the state’s pension system as one of the most efficient in the country due to prompt payments.
Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the Jigawa Pension Payment, describing it as timely financial relief. A retired local government worker, Yusuf Isiya, said the payment would enable him to settle outstanding debts and establish a small business.
Similarly, Binta Sani, the widow of a deceased teacher, said the funds would help her family meet essential needs and support the education of her children. The latest disbursement reinforces Jigawa State’s commitment to ensuring retirees and the families of deceased workers receive their statutory benefits promptly while promoting financial security after public service.
