The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru, has delivered his polling unit in Osogbo to the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, in the ongoing Osun State governorship election. Oyebamiji secured 177 votes at Polling Unit 003, Alagba, Osogbo, where Basiru and his wife, Abibat, cast their ballots.
The APC candidate defeated the incumbent governor and Accord Party candidate, Ademola Adeleke, who polled 60 votes at the polling unit. The African Democratic Congress, ADC, candidate, Najeem Salaam, received three votes. Candidates of the Action Alliance, AA, Young Progressives Party, YPP, and Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, secured one vote each.
The result came shortly after Basiru and his wife participated in the voting exercise at the polling unit. Speaking after casting his ballot, the APC chieftain commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for what he described as the timely deployment of electoral personnel and materials across the state. Basiru also praised voters for coming out to participate in the election, saying the turnout reflected their commitment to the democratic process.
He equally commended security agencies for maintaining a peaceful and orderly atmosphere at polling centres. According to him, the voting process at his polling unit was calm and hitch-free, giving him confidence that the exercise would meet expectations for a free, fair and credible election.
The APC National Secretary expressed optimism about his party’s prospects in the governorship contest, saying the early result from his polling unit reinforced his confidence in Oyebamiji’s chances. The Basiru wins polling unit development represents an early boost for the APC candidate as voting continues across Osun State, with results from other polling units expected to determine the eventual winner of the election.
