Maiduguri, Borno State — Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum has projected that over two million people in Borno State could be registered as members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the party’s ongoing digital membership registration exercise, officials said Sunday, January 11, 2026.
Zulum made the projection shortly after receiving his digital APC membership card at the APC state secretariat in Maiduguri during the official flag‑off of the exercise. The governor’s registration was facilitated by an agent from his ward, Aiari Unit 003, and presented by the Borno State APC Chairman, Bello Ayuba.
Deputy Governor Umar Kadafur and APC Deputy National Chairman Ali Dalori were also registered and received their membership cards at the event, which party leaders described as a step toward strengthening internal democratic processes.
Speaking after the registration, Zulum said expanding the party’s membership through the electronic platform was essential for enhancing internal democracy and improving grassroots political engagement.
“Strengthening internal democracy is key to a stable democracy, and therefore I call on all members of our party to register via the e‑platform. Let us expand our membership,” he said, adding that he believes Borno State can achieve a membership count exceeding two million.
The APC’s digital membership card initiative aims to establish a verifiable and centralised database of party members. Party officials say the platform is expected to improve communication, strengthen internal accountability, and support more effective political participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Bello Ayuba praised Zulum’s mobilisation efforts, describing the governor’s leadership as proactive in driving the registration exercise.
The event drew several high‑profile attendees, including Senate Chief Whip Tahir Moguno, Senators Mohammed Ali Ndume and Kaka Lawan (SAN), as well as members of the House of Representatives and the Borno State House of Assembly, government officials, and party stakeholders.
Political analysts say the digital registration exercise could reinforce the APC’s organisational strength in Borno, a state long considered a stronghold of the party’s support, while providing a modernised membership framework that enhances transparency and data accuracy.
The drive comes amid efforts by the APC to consolidate support and formalise party structures in the North‑East region, where leaders emphasise loyalty to national leadership and greater engagement with citizens through digital political platforms.
Party organisers in Borno and other states are encouraging members to complete registration online before the exercise concludes, with the digital database expected to inform internal planning and participation in upcoming primaries and election campaigns.
