Concerns Over Enugu’s ₦870bn IGR Projection in 2026 Budget

Chief Ude Livinus has commented on Enugu State’s ₦1.62 trillion 2026 budget following its signing by Governor Peter Mbah.

According to official figures, the budget projects ₦870 billion in Internally Generated Revenue, with state officials stating that daily revenue currently stands at about ₦2.5 billion.

Livinus referenced existing financial commitments, noting pension and gratuity arrears estimated at over ₦36 billion and contractor debts of about ₦40 billion.

He also cited claims by revenue officials that approximately ₦400 billion was generated by the end of the 2025 fiscal year, drawing attention to the increase reflected in the 2026 estimates.

Key expenditure items include ₦30 billion for school feeding in smart schools and ₦135.5 billion allocated to a rail project.

Other projects outlined in the budget include the purchase of 14 aircraft, development of Enugu New City, construction of 260 smart schools, 260 hospitals, and road projects numbering over 1,000.

The budget was passed by the Enugu State House of Assembly and signed into law by the governor. However it is unclear the revenue projection would be achieved without making the citizens life that is unbearable already even worse.
