The management of Lagos State University, LASU, Ojo, has assured qualified graduating students in its Department of English that they will not be forced to spend an additional year because of missing results.
The assurance follows concerns that about 100 final-year students could be delayed after some 300-level results were allegedly not uploaded by two lecturers. The issue generated significant reactions on social media, particularly on X, as affected students feared they might be unable to graduate with their classmates.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the university said it had investigated the matter and resolved the reported result-upload problem. LASU said all outstanding results in the Department of English had been uploaded as of Sunday, August 23, 2026.
“Following an enquiry by the University Management into the allegation concerning the non-upload of results of some graduating students in the Department of English, the University wishes to clarify that the Department has uploaded all outstanding results as of Sunday, 23 August 2026,” the institution stated. The development is expected to ease concerns among affected students who had feared that the missing results could prevent them from completing their programmes on schedule.
The university explained that students who have satisfied all graduation requirements will graduate alongside their colleagues during the 2025/2026 academic session. LASU specifically ruled out an additional year for students whose graduation requirements have been fully met.
“No student who has met all graduation requirements will be required to spend an extra year on account of the issue raised,” the university said. The clarification means that the reported delay in uploading results will not, by itself, prevent qualified students from graduating.
However, the institution drew a distinction between students affected by the initial upload issue and those whose academic records remain incomplete after the latest update. According to LASU, any student whose result remains outstanding after the results were uploaded may not have fulfilled all the requirements necessary for graduation.
“Any student whose result remains outstanding following this action has yet to fulfil the requirements for graduation and is advised to complete the necessary requirements accordingly,” the university stated.
The clarification places the responsibility on affected students to identify and complete any remaining graduation requirements.
LASU said it remained committed to ensuring that students who have completed all graduation requirements are not unnecessarily delayed. The institution’s response also sought to reassure the LASU English students affected by the controversy that their academic progression would not be disrupted because of an administrative issue that has now been addressed. The university said students who meet the necessary conditions will proceed to graduation with their colleagues in the 2025/2026 academic session.
