New road infrastructure across Abuja is beginning to reshape previously developing areas, with real estate investors taking advantage of improved access to expand construction activities, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said. Wike made the observation on Friday while inspecting the ongoing construction of an access road leading to the FCT Fire Service Station in Kaura District.
The project links Ring Road II with Oladipo Diya Way in Gaduwa and is designed to improve movement and connectivity across adjoining communities. According to the minister, the development of Abuja road infrastructure is already producing wider economic benefits as property developers move into areas previously constrained by poor accessibility.
He said improved road networks were creating fresh investment opportunities while also opening up employment prospects for young people across the Federal Capital Territory. Wike described the road project as strategically important to the development of the area, noting that its completion would significantly transform the surrounding landscape and stimulate commercial activities.
The project consists of one collector road, two local streets and a minor access road, all intended to strengthen connectivity within the rapidly expanding districts. The minister expressed satisfaction with the pace of construction, particularly the completion of the bridge component since his previous inspection.
He explained that the initial section of the project connects to the newly completed bridge but said he had directed the contractor to extend the road to Oladipo Diya Way. Wike said the extension would make the project more useful to residents and businesses in the area.
“I have put big pressure on them that it will be very appropriate to also include the extensions so that it will be meaningful,” he said. Despite the additional work, the contractor reportedly remained confident of delivering the project by December.
However, Wike said it was unclear whether the proposed extension would be completed within the same timeline. He said the completed project would substantially change the physical character of the area while improving accessibility and encouraging further development.
“This project will completely alter and improve the topography and landscape of the area once fully completed,” Wike said.
The minister also assured the contractor of continued government support, promising that outstanding payments would be processed promptly to maintain the momentum of construction. He said the FCT Administration was committed to ensuring that infrastructure projects were delivered within agreed timelines.
“We believe that the company will do their best to meet up with the time,” Wike added.
The development comes as several parts of Abuja continue to experience rapid expansion, with improved transportation links increasingly influencing where residential, commercial and mixed-use developments emerge.
