Rivers ADC Dismisses Rainbow Coalition Influence Ahead of 2027

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Rivers State has downplayed Rainbow Coalition Influence in the state’s political landscape. The party said recent claims about the coalition’s dominance do not reflect political realities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The remarks followed statements by Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, regarding the strength of the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State. Wike recently described the coalition as the leading political platform in the state. He also urged politicians seeking elective offices to align with the movement. The coalition comprises members of the Peoples Democratic Party, APC, Labour Party, and Action Alliance.

The coalition has also pledged support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. Wike stated that the group would jointly determine its governorship candidate rather than allow any individual endorsement process.

Reacting to those developments, Rivers ADC leaders argued that Rainbow Coalition Influence should not be overstated. They maintained that electoral success depends on voter support, grassroots engagement, and credible candidates rather than political declarations.

The party also questioned assertions that politicians must join the coalition to win future elections. Wike had stated that anyone seeking positions such as governor, senator, member of the House of Representatives, state legislator, or local government chairman would need to align with the coalition. According to the ADC, Rivers voters will ultimately determine electoral outcomes through the ballot. Party officials said political influence cannot be measured solely by elite alliances or cross-party arrangements.

The development comes amid growing political activity in Rivers State. Several parties have intensified consultations and mobilisation efforts ahead of the next election cycle. The ADC has continued to position itself as an alternative platform for voters seeking different political choices.

The debate over Rainbow Coalition Influence highlights the early political contest shaping Rivers State ahead of 2027. Competing parties are seeking to strengthen their structures and expand support bases across the state. Political observers note that coalition politics could affect candidate selection, campaign strategies, and voter mobilisation efforts. However, electoral outcomes will depend on broader factors, including party organisation, public perception, and voter participation.
