The Senate of Bayero University Kano has approved the expulsion of 171 students for falsifying their admission entry qualifications, the institution said in a statement.
The decision was taken at the Senate’s 433rd meeting on March 4, 2026, following an investigation by the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities into alleged breaches of the university’s academic regulations.
The university said the action reflects its position on maintaining academic integrity and upholding established rules governing the conduct of students.
According to the statement published in the university’s weekly bulletin, the students were found to have presented falsified credentials when seeking admission into various programmes at the institution.
The Senate said the misconduct violates Section 20.7, Category A (vii) of the General Examinations and Academic Regulations, which prescribes expulsion as the appropriate sanction for presenting fraudulent admission documentation.
The affected students cut across multiple departments and academic levels, the bulletin noted.
In addition to the mass expulsion for falsified credentials, the Senate approved the expulsion of one student, Yusuf Muhammad Sani from the Department of Civil Engineering, for alleged involvement in a physical assault on invigilators during an examination.
The university described the assault as having disrupted the conduct of the examination and violating regulations on student discipline.
BUK’s management reaffirmed its commitment to upholding academic integrity, warning that any breach of regulations would continue to attract strict sanctions under established rules.
The statement said the mass expulsion serves as a stern warning to current and prospective students that the university maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward both academic fraud and indiscipline.
