Oborevwori’s Leadership Shapes Delta’s Political and Development Path to 2027

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State is shaping the state’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections through infrastructure development and political consolidation, according to observers.

Recent developments in Delta State combine political activity within the ruling All Progressives Congress and government initiatives aimed at delivering strategic infrastructure and expanding educational access.

These efforts have drawn attention as political stakeholders prepare for the next election cycle.

A state congress of the APC was held at the Cenotaph in Asaba, where party delegates elected a new leadership team.

The congress followed constitutional provisions and produced a full State Working Committee.

Governor Oborevwori described the event as part of broader political realignment within the state.

At the congress, Oborevwori outlined directives for the new executive, urging preparations for the 2027 polls targeting victory across all levels, including presidential, legislative and governorship positions.

Beyond party reorganisation, the governor recently commissioned key infrastructure projects, notably the 4.8‑kilometre Oko–Amakom/Oko‑Obiokpu/Oko‑Anala road in Oshimili South Local Government Area. Oborevwori said the road would improve accessibility for agrarian communities.

Delta State has also completed other infrastructure works and approved further phases of road construction with significant funding allocated for expansion.

The road projects form a suite of ongoing developments aimed at improving connectivity statewide.

In the education sector, several state universities have marked milestones.

At the first convocation of Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, the governor highlighted the impact of expanding higher education access through newly established institutions, including Southern Delta University, Ozoro, and the University of Delta, Agbor.

The state government’s bursary and scholarship programmes are also expanding to provide financial support to students studying in various tertiary institutions.

Traditional leaders in communities benefiting from the infrastructure said the projects will unlock economic opportunities, especially for farmers who previously faced challenges transporting produce.

The combination of political reorganisation within the APC and ongoing governance efforts widely reflects an evolving political strategy in Delta State as the 2027 elections approach.
