The Peoples Democratic Party has responded to criticism from the All Progressives Congress over its internal crisis, describing the remarks as unfounded and misleading.
The reaction followed a statement by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, who said the PDP was no longer able to function as a political party due to internal challenges.
Morka stated that the PDP was incapable of providing a credible platform for its members because of its internal dysfunction.
In response, the PDP, through its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, described the APC’s statement as “unfortunate” and rejected the claim that the party had lost relevance.
The party said defections of some political office holders were part of a strategy allegedly carried out by the ruling APC.
It added that despite the defections, Nigerians had continued to reject the APC due to the impact of its policies.
The PDP stated that public dissatisfaction with the ruling party outweighs any internal issues within its ranks.
Ememobong also criticised Morka’s remarks, describing them as “delusional propaganda.”
The statement further alleged that some membership registration processes in states were influenced by the use of existing databases from state empowerment programmes.
The PDP maintained that it remains a relevant political platform despite its internal challenges.
The exchange reflects ongoing political disagreements between the PDP and APC amid internal challenges within the opposition party and recent defections.
