Tax Revenue in Nigeria Rises 30% to N28.3tn in 2025

The Nigerian Revenue Service reported that total tax revenue for 2025 reached N28.3 trillion, 30 percent higher than the N21.7 trillion recorded in 2024, according to official figures.

The performance figures were presented in Abuja by Hajiya Amina Kurawa, Executive Director of Government and Large Tax at the NRS, during the agency’s 2025 Leadership Retreat.

The NRS reported that the 2025 tax revenue of N28.3 trillion exceeded the Federal Government’s target of N25.2 trillion by about 12 percent.

Quarterly performance showed that the NRS achieved 96.9 percent of its first-quarter target, 129.7 percent in the second quarter, 131.9 percent in the third quarter, and 90.4 percent in the fourth quarter.

The increase in total revenue for 2025 reflects broader growth in both oil and non-oil tax collections compared with the preceding year.

According to additional reporting, oil tax revenue for 2025 totalled approximately N6.8 trillion, up from the N5.8 trillion collected in 2024. Non-oil tax revenue rose to about N21.5 trillion from N15.9 trillion in 2024.

The NRS figures showed that the growth in revenue was supported by increased collections across major tax categories, including value-added tax and company income tax.
