Hoodlums Kill Mother, Six Children in Kano Home Attack

Unknown hoodlums have killed a 35-year-old woman and her six children in a violent attack at their home in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano State, the Kano State Police Command confirmed on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the command received a distress call at about 12:10 p.m. reporting the attack on the household of Haruna Bashir. Police said the assailants broke into the family residence and used dangerous weapons to inflict fatal injuries on the victims.

The deceased woman has been identified as Fatima Abubakar (35). Police confirmed that all seven victims — Abubakar and her six children — were evacuated to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where medical personnel pronounced them dead on arrival.

Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, directed a police team led by Deputy Commissioner of Police in Charge of Operations, DCP Lawal Isah Mani, to the scene immediately after the call.

The force has also instructed Assistant Commissioner of Police Wada Jarma of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to lead a full investigation to identify and arrest those responsible.

The attack has left the Dorayi Chiranchi community in mourning, with residents calling for improved security and swift action to prevent similar incidents. Authorities have expressed condolences to the bereaved family and the people of Kano State and assured the public that efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice are underway.

Police are investigating the motive behind the attack and pursuing leads to apprehend the suspects. Residents are being urged to report any relevant information to security forces.
