Aboh‑Mbaise, Imo State — Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, former Governor of Imo State, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) by picking up his ADC membership card, party officials said on Monday, January 12, 2026.
The ceremony took place at Mbutu Ward, Aboh‑Mbaise Local Government Area of the state.
The membership card — numbered 001 — was presented to Ihedioha by the Ward Chairman, Chief Alex Ahamuefula, while the Ward Secretary, Prince Obinna Opara, conducted the registration process, according to party sources.
The event was attended by ADC leaders, local government officials and community stakeholders including Evangelist Dr. Obi Nwaigwe, Mayor of Mbutu, and Hon. Jonathan Egbule, Chairman of Aboh‑Mbaise LGA.
Speaking after the registration, Ihedioha said he joined the ADC because he believes the party’s values — including accountability, people‑focused leadership and service to the community — align with his vision for governance.
He said Nigeria and Imo State need leaders who will listen to the people and work for their good, not personal interests.
“I am convinced that the ADC provides a credible platform to pursue these goals,” Ihedioha said, pledging to work with party members across the grassroots to strengthen the ADC’s presence in the South‑East and beyond.
National party officials were also at the event, including Sir Bon Unachukwu, ADC National Vice Chairman (South‑East), Maigari Bello Kasimu, Deputy Diaspora Coordinator, and Uko Nkole, Coordinator of the Nigerian Former Legislators Forum.
Prof. James Okoroma, Imo State Chairman of the ADC, led the State Executive Committee in welcoming Ihedioha to the party, saying his membership will strengthen the ADC’s commitment to internal democracy and local mobilisation in Imo State.
Ihedioha was previously a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but resigned after a period of political realignment, including his involvement with the Rebuild Imo Movement (RIM) and engagement with political coalitions seeking alternatives to established parties.
With his formal registration complete, Ihedioha is expected to take part in party activities and mobilisation efforts for the ADC ahead of forthcoming elections, with a focus on building grassroots support and advancing the party’s presence in key regions.
