Wike Says Ireti Kingibe Will Not Return to Senate in 2027

The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has stated that Senator Ireti Kingibe will not return to the Senate in 2027, citing her lack of tangible projects for FCT residents.

Wike spoke on Monday during a media parley in Abuja. His remarks renew a position he previously expressed in 2024 that Kingibe would not secure a second term.

Wike said he had said more than a year ago that Kingibe would not return to the Senate in 2027 and described his comments as the truth, challenging her to show a project delivered during her tenure.

Kingibe represents the Federal Capital Territory in the Senate and was elected in 2023 on the platform of the Labour Party.

Wike said Kingibe had no significant presence in satellite towns of the FCT, areas he described as places with high voter turnout.

He linked his comments to what he described as Kingibe’s failure to deliver visible projects for residents of the capital territory.

The minister also addressed his presence at several polling units during recent FCT area council elections, dismissing claims that his presence influenced the outcomes because he was not a candidate on the ballot.

Wike stated: “I am the governor of FCT. For security, I have to find out what is going on. I don’t need to be told,” and added that he did not instruct anyone how to vote.
