SERAP Asks Akpabio to Publish Names in N210trn Probe

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has urged Godswill Akpabio to direct the Senate’s Public Accounts Committee to publish the names of officials implicated in the alleged missing ₦200 trillion from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited or face legal action.

The Senate Public Accounts Committee is currently investigating allegations that about ₦200 trillion is missing or unaccounted for from NNPCL’s accounts between 2017 and 2023.

According to the committee, the probe followed concerns over unreconciled financial figures and lack of supporting documentation, with some officials yet to provide explanations or appear before the panel.

In a letter dated March 21, 2026, signed by SERAP Deputy Director Kolawole Oluwadare, the organisation called for full disclosure of all individuals linked to the allegations, regardless of status.

SERAP also requested that the committee publish details of the ongoing investigation, including audit reports, financial records and official communications used in the probe.

The group further asked for disclosure of timelines for the appearance of implicated officials and the expected conclusion of the investigation.

It urged the Senate to make public the full records of proceedings, including minutes, submissions and evidence presented, to allow independent scrutiny by Nigerians.

SERAP stated: “Full disclosure of the ongoing investigation is essential to ensure transparency and accountability, prevent political interference, and allow Nigerians to independently scrutinise the facts and investigation.”

The organisation added that transparency would help address concerns about the credibility and accuracy of the allegations and prevent perceptions of a cover-up.

It also noted that the scale of the alleged missing funds highlights the need for a thorough and transparent investigation.

SERAP stated that public disclosure would enable oversight institutions and citizens to assess the allegations and ensure accountability in the management of public resources.
