The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited and the Dangote Group reaffirmed a strategic alliance aimed at accelerating Nigeria’s energy security and shared commercial objectives during a high-level visit to the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Complex in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.
Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, led a delegation to the Dangote Refinery facility on February 21, 2026.
The visit included discussions and a facility tour focused on strengthening operational and commercial ties between NNPC Ltd and the refinery.
The Dangote Refinery has a processing capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, positioning Nigeria as a significant downstream hub in Africa.
Engr. Ojulari commended Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, for his vision and persistence in delivering the refinery project.
He described the renewed alliance as one that will “unlock synergies across assets, infrastructure, capital, and markets” while providing improved visibility for all business relations between both organisations.
Ojulari noted the potential for the collaboration to expand into upstream operations, trading, shipping logistics, and gas supply.
He attributed the development of such partnerships to Nigeria’s current policy environment and investor-friendly reforms under the Federal Government.
According to the source report, the alliance reaffirmed both parties’ commitment to deepening cooperation to pursue shared objectives, ensure energy security, stimulate industrial growth, and deliver value to Nigerians.
The report noted that NNPC Ltd currently holds a 7.25 per cent equity stake in the Dangote Refinery, which aligns with its downstream growth strategy and efforts to support domestic refining capacity.
Alhaji Aliko Dangote said Nigerians would benefit from the synergy between the Dangote Group and NNPC Ltd because the collaboration is expected to achieve economies of scale and unlock value across markets.
The renewed alliance underscores the intention of both organisations to strengthen cooperation across different segments of the petroleum value chain, including operations that support domestic refining and related commercial activities.
