Delta Approves N34bn for 25 Divisional Police Headquarters

The Delta State Government has approved more than N34 billion for the construction of 25 modern divisional police headquarters across the state’s local government areas and the establishment of a Special Police Protection Unit.

The approval was granted during a State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. The development was disclosed by the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads), Charles Aniagwu, while briefing journalists after the meeting.

Aniagwu stated that several projects affecting different sectors of the state were approved during the meeting in line with the administration’s development agenda.

According to the commissioner, the construction of the divisional police headquarters will cover the 25 local government areas of the state. The facilities are expected to strengthen the security structure across Delta State.

He explained that the State Executive Council also approved the establishment of a Special Police Protection Unit as part of the security initiatives. Both projects are estimated to cost more than N34 billion.

Aniagwu said the decision reflects the government’s focus on safeguarding lives and property, which he described as a primary responsibility of government.

He also noted that the approval aligns with ongoing national discussions regarding the proposed establishment of state police across Nigeria.

The commissioner added that the Commissioner for Housing has been directed to begin the necessary procedures to ensure the projects commence.

The construction of new divisional police headquarters and the Special Police Protection Unit is intended to strengthen security infrastructure across Delta State.
