The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed that the Nigerian Army will continue to take decisive action against security threats action across the country, as part of ongoing operational efforts to stabilise affected regions. The statement was made during an operational visit to troops in Yobe State.
During the visit, the COAS conducted a battlefield assessment and engaged frontline personnel operating under Sector 2 Joint Task Force, Operation HADIN KAI in the North-East. He also met with state officials, including the Deputy Governor of Yobe State, who represented the governor at the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport in Damaturu.
The Army Chief stated that the Nigerian Army remains committed to its constitutional responsibility of defending the nation despite evolving operational challenges. He noted that recent attacks on military positions have not weakened troop resolve, but have instead reinforced ongoing adjustments in strategy.
According to the COAS, the Army is continuously refining its operational methods to respond effectively to changing security dynamics across various theatres. These adjustments are designed to sustain and expand gains already recorded in counter-insurgency and internal security operations.
He emphasised that the Nigerian Army will maintain aggressive posture in confronting terrorism and related threats, stressing that national security requires sustained pressure on hostile groups. The security threats action strategy, he noted, is central to current military operations.
The COAS also called for stronger collaboration between the military, state governments, and citizens. He stated that support from local authorities remains critical to achieving long-term peace and operational success in conflict-affected areas.
While addressing troops in Yobe, he urged personnel to remain disciplined, focused, and committed to their mission. He encouraged them to intensify efforts against insurgents, particularly in honour of fallen colleagues who lost their lives in previous engagements.
He further acknowledged the sacrifices made by soldiers deployed across multiple regions, noting that their contributions remain central to ongoing national security efforts. The COAS assured that welfare considerations remain a key component of command philosophy.
The Yobe State Government, through the Deputy Governor, commended the Nigerian Army for its continued efforts in restoring stability in the region. The state leadership also expressed support for ongoing military operations and paid tribute to soldiers who lost their lives in service.
The visit also included interactions with commanders at Sector 2 Headquarters, where the COAS reviewed operational progress and assessed current security conditions. He reiterated the importance of coordination among security agencies in achieving sustained results.
