Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, said the All Progressives Congress is not a party of saints but maintained that it remains better than the Peoples Democratic Party.
Keyamo’s comments were shared in a post on his verified X account on Saturday. He referred to an interview he gave in 2017, explaining that parts of his remarks had been taken out of context.
In his social media post accompanied by a video, Keyamo said the unedited 2017 interview emphasised that the APC “may not be a Party of saints.” He wrote that some individuals had edited out a portion of his original comments.
Keyamo quoted himself saying: “This is the unedited part of the interview I granted a blog in 2017 (nine years ago) emphasising that APC may not be a Party of saints (which, I repeat, is a matter of fact), BUT it is still far better than where we were coming from.”
He added: “And today, I repeat it again, I will be a fool to say APC is a Party of saints. And anyone who declares any Party to which he/she belongs as a Party of saints will also be a fool.”
Keyamo said no political party is without flaws. He stated that the APC offers more prospects for Nigeria compared to the PDP, which governed the country before the APC.
On his social media post, Keyamo said: “But, on the balance, the APC still holds the best hope for the country and we cannot return to the era of PDP where you had some of the characters who are running for President today.”
He referred to President Bola Tinubu, writing that he “never hopped onto that battered train of PDP at that time.”
Keyamo’s remarks sought to clarify his position on the APC and its comparison with the PDP. He reiterated that he did not consider the APC perfect but still viewed it as a better alternative than the PDP in current national politics.
