Anambra PDP Chieftain Petitions Wike Over Congress Dispute

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Anambra State, Chief Amaechi Onowu, has petitioned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over alleged irregularities in the ongoing party congress in the state.

The dispute centres on the ongoing PDP congress organised to elect new party leaders in Anambra State.

Concerns have been raised about how the exercise is being conducted, including the process for obtaining congress forms and participation in the election process.

Onowu, who is contesting for the position of state chairman, raised the concerns while addressing journalists during a press conference in Abuja.

According to Onowu, the position of state chairman in the congress had been zoned to the Anambra Central Senatorial District, where he comes from.

He said he is a registered member of the PDP in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State and appealed to Wike to intervene in the situation.

Onowu alleged that certain individuals had taken control of the process and the sale of congress forms across the state.

He stated that the chairman of the PDP State Caretaker Committee in Anambra had prevented some stakeholders and party members from obtaining congress forms needed to participate in the exercise.

According to him, the development contradicts the directive that all registered party members should be allowed to participate in the congress to elect state executive members.

He also said the sale of forms for the chairmanship and other positions had been controlled across the 21 local government areas of the state.

Onowu said he would approach the court if the sale of congress forms was not opened to interested party members and if transparency was not ensured in the congress process.
