The Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has rejected Nyesom Wike’s confidence over the 2027 election.

The party said political boasting would not determine the outcome.

ADC State Chairman, Dr Chukwudi Dimkpa, made the position known Monday. He spoke in a statement issued in Port Harcourt.

Dimkpa was reacting to comments attributed to Wike.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, spoke Saturday.

He addressed supporters at a civic reception in Omagwa.

The event was organised by the City Boy Movement.

Wike reportedly said Rotimi Amaechi would be defeated by noon.

Amaechi is the ADC’s vice presidential candidate.

Dimkpa said such confidence could not replace voters’ decisions. He argued that elections would be determined through actual ballots.

According to him, Rivers residents would cast their votes. The votes would subsequently be counted.

He added that INEC would declare the eventual winner.

Dimkpa also criticised Wike’s conduct during Saturday’s event. He described it as political excesses taken too far.

According to the ADC chairman, Amaechi was burying his mother. People from different parts of Nigeria had travelled to Ubima.

They were there to mourn with the Amaechi family.

Dimkpa said Wike and Ikwerre LGA Chairman Charles Wobodo used the route.

He alleged that the reception caused unnecessary traffic. He also accused the organisers of turning it political.

The event, he said, became a platform against Amaechi.

Dimkpa described the situation as insensitive and provocative.

He said politics should have its appropriate time. Humanity, he added, should also be respected.

The ADC chairman questioned Wike’s continued focus on Amaechi.

He said the rivalry should not overshadow human occasions.

Dimkpa explained why the party remained silent Saturday. He said its priority was Amaechi’s mother’s burial.

The chairman nevertheless warned against intimidating Rivers voters.

He stressed that nobody owns the state’s electorate. He also rejected any attempt to predetermine election results.

Dimkpa urged Rivers residents to remain focused ahead of 2027. He called on them to make their choice without intimidation.

He said voters should elect a credible leader. Such leadership, he added, should improve people’s lives.

Wike, however, had told his supporters at Omagwa that candidates backed by the Rainbow Coalition would win the 2027 elections.
