Mbah faces 14 challengers in 2027 Enugu governorship race

Governor Peter Mbah will face 14 challengers in the 2027 Enugu governorship election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, displayed the list of candidates at its Enugu headquarters on Monday.

The document showed 15 candidates cleared to contest the election.

Mbah, the incumbent governor, is seeking a second term. He will contest under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Among his challengers is Chief Uchenna Nnaji of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Chief Chinyeaka Ohaa will represent the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, is fielding Chief Obodoeze Ocho. Other candidates include Edwin Alor of Accord.

Prof. Jehu Nnaji is contesting under the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP.

The Labour Party, LP, will be represented by Okwudilichukwu Ugwu.

Nnamdi Ugwu is the candidate of the Democratic Leadership Alliance, DLA.

Anthony Udeani will contest for the Young Progressives Party, YPP.

Afamefuna Ani is the Action Peoples Party, APP, candidate.

The Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, is fielding Elvis Ugwoke.

Friday Iloka will represent the Social Democratic Party, SDP.

Nnamdi Omeje is contesting under the Action Democratic Party, ADP.

Ken Ikeh will fly the flag of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM.

Chief Obioma Nnamani completes the list for the BOOT Party. The emergence of the 15 candidates has created a crowded field.

Political activities are expected to intensify ahead of the election. The candidates are already seeking support from key stakeholders.

Community leaders and influential figures are also being approached. Mbah is expected to campaign on his administration’s record.

Infrastructure projects and social intervention programmes could feature prominently.

The government has continued to highlight projects it says are verifiable. It has also pointed to programmes it says have benefited residents.

However, the governor faces competition from several opposition parties. The challengers will seek to build support across the state.

They are expected to present alternative visions to voters. The 2027 Enugu governorship race is therefore taking shape.

Mbah will seek another term against 14 other candidates. The contest is expected to attract heightened political activity across Enugu.
