The House of Representatives has directed an investigation into the stalled N365 million National Library project in Taraba State, ordering contractors and relevant officials to appear before its committee to explain the abandonment of the work.

The resolution for the probe followed a motion raised by Hon. Hassan Kauda representing Zing/Shongom Federal Constituency during plenary at the National Assembly.

The motion highlighted concerns over the non‑completion of the library project commissioned by the Federal Government’s Ministry of Education.

Kauda told lawmakers that the National Library project in Taraba State was funded with N365 million but had been abandoned by the contractors.

He said the facility, intended to serve the people of the state, had become dilapidated and unfit for use due to its stalled status.

The lawmaker said the abandonment of the project was unacceptable given the importance of National Library facilities in promoting literacy, access to information and educational resources.

He urged his colleagues to intervene and ensure accountability for the funds released for the project.

Following debate, the House adopted a resolution that directed its Committee on Public Accounts to investigate the matter.

The committee was ordered to summon the contractor, officials of the Ministry of Education and other relevant stakeholders to provide detailed explanations for the project’s abandonment.

The committee was given four weeks to conclude its investigation and report back to the House with findings and recommendations.

The resolution also mandated that the affected communities and the Taraba State government be kept abreast of developments.
