Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Fintiri Defects from PDP to APC

Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress, ending weeks of speculation about his political alignment.

In a statewide broadcast on Friday, the governor announced his departure from the PDP alongside members of his cabinet and party officials.

The development follows recent defections by members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly from the PDP.

Fintiri said the decision to join the APC was in the developmental interest of the people of Adamawa State. He registered with the APC and displayed his party membership card during the announcement.

He stated that he and his allies would drive party registration across all 226 wards and 21 local government areas in the state, including elected and appointed officials.

Flags of the Peoples Democratic Party were reportedly taken down at the governor’s office and Government House following the announcement.

The development followed the resignation of the Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Bathiya Wesley, and 14 other lawmakers from the PDP earlier in the week.

Those lawmakers presented their letters of resignation during a plenary session.

The governor described the move as a means of aligning the state’s politics with national developments and enhancing collaboration with the Federal Government.

Adamawa State commissioners also joined Fintiri in the APC, according to reports, underscoring the shift of key state officials to the ruling party.
