UBA Group Appoints Loknath Mishra as Chief Executive Officer of UBA UK

United Bank for Africa (UBA) Group has appointed Loknath Mishra as the Chief Executive Officer of UBA UK, the bank said in a statement confirming the leadership change effective February 2, 2026.

The appointment reflects the group’s ongoing focus on enhancing its international operations and financial services capabilities in the United Kingdom.

In the announcement, UBA Group said Mishra will lead UBA UK’s efforts to position the subsidiary as a centre of excellence in regulatory compliance and customer service, while strengthening its financial resilience through diversified liquidity and income streams.

He will also work to deepen the bank’s leadership in trade, transaction and correspondent banking, supporting business flows between Africa and international markets.

Mishra brings decades of international banking experience spanning retail, corporate, investment and transaction banking.

Before his appointment at UBA UK, he served as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ICICI Bank UK, where he strengthened the bank’s presence across the UK and European markets, enhanced governance structures, engaged with regulators and improved operational resilience.

He has also held senior leadership positions at ICICI Bank Limited, including roles as Group Head of Wholesale Banking and Global Head of Transaction Banking, contributing to the expansion of global wholesale franchises and risk management frameworks.

Commenting on the appointment, Oliver Alawuba, UBA Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, said Mishra’s “global banking experience, regulatory credibility and deep expertise in wholesale and transaction banking” will support UBA UK’s role as a flagship subsidiary within the group’s international network.

In his remarks on taking up the role, Mishra said he was “honoured to join UBA at a time of significant opportunity for the group” and expressed readiness to work with colleagues to strengthen UBA UK’s platform and support client growth across Africa and beyond.

UBA UK, as part of the wider UBA Group network, plays a critical role in providing banking solutions to governments, corporates and financial institutions, particularly in facilitating trade finance, treasury services and correspondent banking for clients engaged in business between Africa and the United Kingdom.

The appointment of Mishra aligns with UBA Group’s broader strategy of reinforcing its global footprint, leveraging strategic leadership to enhance service delivery and drive cross‑border financial engagement.
