2027: It’s Time to Bury Hatchet, Natasha Tells PDP Leaders

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) has urged leaders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to set aside their differences and focus on reconciliation following recent developments within the party.

Akpoti-Uduaghan made the appeal in a statement she personally signed, calling on party leaders to put the interest of the party and its members ahead of prolonged internal disputes.

Her call followed a judgment delivered by the Court of Appeal of Nigeria which nullified the PDP national convention held in Ibadan in November 2025.

According to the senator, the party must respect the court’s decision and use the opportunity to rebuild unity among its members.

She said the PDP, as a political party that believes in the rule of law, should move beyond litigation and focus on reconciliation and rebuilding its internal structures.

Akpoti-Uduaghan noted that continued legal battles among party leaders could undermine the confidence of members across the country and weaken the party’s preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The lawmaker emphasised that party members at the grassroots should not bear the consequences of disagreements among leaders.

She stated that the aspirations of PDP members seeking elective offices should remain a priority and should not be jeopardised by internal conflicts.

Akpoti-Uduaghan also urged party stakeholders to demonstrate maturity, compromise and leadership in resolving disputes affecting the party.

According to her, dialogue and cooperation among leaders are necessary to restore stability and strengthen the party’s position.

She further called for the organisation of an inclusive and credible national convention in line with the regulations of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The senator stressed that compliance with electoral guidelines and the party’s constitution would help restore confidence among members and supporters.

Akpoti-Uduaghan added that Nigerians are closely observing the actions of political parties and expect the PDP to demonstrate its readiness to provide responsible leadership.

She urged all stakeholders within the party to work together to reposition the PDP and ensure unity within its ranks as the political landscape gradually shifts toward preparations for the 2027 elections.
